There was not much in the way of detail at the time of publishing. Like many of the families, there was little, if any, conversation about what the courting or dating scene was like for many of the parents. It seems meeting at church or community events, going to a local movie theater or dancing at the Gordon Lodge, were the sources of courting venues in those days.
Note: known to us as "Vincent", his birthname is Antione Vincent, born on June 13, 1928. His wife, Mary Pauline Doucette was born on Sept 30, 1934. Creating a family took place fairly quickly as Carool Ann, the oldest of Vincent and Pauline children was born 9 months after they were married and they continued to bring 14 children into this clan over a 17.5 half years - who's counting, but that's a new baby every 14 months.
They started out raising their family on the farm to the west of the homestead property and bordered on the other side by the Firmin Doiron family (Pepe's brother). The property was occupied by Joe and Rosalie Gaudet originally. Rosalie was Pepe's sister. The house on this property was very similar in design and architecture to the DOIRON homestead house. All of Vincent and Pauline's children were raised in this house except for Keith. Tragically, this home burned in 1970 - for a short time, the family moved into the old DOIRON homestead house next door, as Lionel and Shirley and their family and moved to Medicine Hat Alberta to see what life there would be like. In 1971, Vincent and Pauline moved their family into the "old" St. Ann's school house which had been converted into a residence, located just at the bottom of the hill from the church, on the road to Stanley Bridge. Then Keith was born in September of that year.
Vincent was a very accomplished carpenter in his day. His daughter recants how her Mom Pauline always lamented that he built beautiful cabinets and furniture for everyone else, but never would for his own house. Vincent was also a long time bus driver for the schools in the area up until 1988. He was the janitor for St. Ann's school across from the church for many years, although the kids say they did all the work - he was just the boss. Pauline was best known for her baking skills. She worked as a baker for the St. Ann's Lobster Suppers for almost 25 years (as many of the local ladies did). She was known for her "buns", bread rolls that is - she likely made hundreds of thousands of rolls for the suppers and for a while Chez Yvonne's Restaurant, owned by her brother and sister in-law, Rollie and Yvonne Larkin. Pauline and Vincent were very active in the community and the church. They children had regular play dates with their cousins at Lionel's and Ivan's who lived just down the road. Summers and weekends were spent playing games in the local woods, fishing in the local streams, helping the uncles when asked on their farms.
Vincent passed away Sept 10, 1999. Pauline remarried a number of years later to another Vincent, Vincent Gallant of North Rustico. He passed away in January 2010. Donna Jones (daughter) chuckles that her Mom eventually met another gentleman who loved to take Pauline dancing - he too was named Vincent. Pauline lives in an assisted facility in Charlottetown PEI.
