Ivan and Marie grew up across the field from each other in St. Ann's Parish, so they knew each other from the start, even though Marie was 4 years younger than Ivan. The children say they never really knew about their parents "courtship", it was just not something they never talked about.
Known to us as "Ivan" his birthname is Ignace Ivan, born Nov 2, 1929. Ivan's wife, married Marie Annastashia Pineau was born on May 2, 1934. Ivan began a farm of his own right after they got married. Seems he patterned their farm after his own parents, having dairy cattle which required daily milking from which cream was separated and shipped to the New Glasgow dairy factory. They also raised pigs, chickens and beef and grew a variety of crops, mainly to feed the animals. Marie was a teacher until her first child was born then stayed at home to raise the the children. Ivan eventually became the local school bus driver (as did his brother Vincent) and he did that job for many years as it went well with his other chores on the farm. Once the children were old enough to be at home on their own, Marie took a summer job at St. Ann's Lobster Suppers where she worked for many years. Ivan also worked at the lobster suppers until he retired. In their spare time they loved to play cards - anywhere and everywhere. In retirement, bingo also became a welcomed pastime. Ivan passed away on May 28, 2000 and Marie on December 28, 2010. Their farm still remains in the family to this day.
